Do patient advocates need a license? No, there is no formal licensing required, however, there is a certification that demonstrates competency in the field.
What is the difference between an independent patient advocate and a hospital/insurance advocate? Unlike hospital advocates, an independent advocate is private pay, so my alliance is with you. An advocate supplied by the hospital or insurance company will ultimately have their employer's interest at heart, first and foremost.
